Fine farger. Morsomt motiv og uvanlig komposisjon. Spennende bilde.

Thank you, Trude, for your comment. My limited Norwegian language knowledge is enough to understand your nice words :) I appreciate them very much!

Judit :)
Steinulf L.

A good observation!

Caledonians in action! On their way to a haggish meal and a nip of whisky?
Judit W.

I don't know, Steinulf :) What I only know that they had just left a funeral ceremony then :(

But the haggis meal and Chivas Regal or Dewar's are good, you're right! :) Thank you for your nice words!

Judit :)

Hei Per Ove,

I appreciate your nice words as well, again :)

Espen A. I.

Good evening Judit! I like this pic. The mix of the colours is nice. Composition is also great. Is that a ''kilt'' ?

Espen
Judit W.

Hi Espen!

Yes, these are kilts. You probably know that every clan still has its own special-coloured and –figured checked-cloth for making kilts. The Scotsmen wear kilts only at extraordinary times (national holiday, wedding, funeral, etc.) originally.

Thank you for your comment. Have a good night :)

Judit :)
Avsluttet .

What I like on your photo that is the composition, and of course the fact that every clan still has its own kilts.

Hi Judit!

I like the composition very much. A different and exciting picture. Well seen and taken.

Best regards Hege .-)

Thanks Hege and Jan Roar, for both of you, the nice comments! Have a good day :)

Fint utsnitt. Tror kanskje jeg ville skarpet opp bildet litt.

Thanks Birger, I appreciate your nice words very much!

Tor-Erik E.

Hi Judit.
I like the idea of not showing their faces in this picture. I believe the purpose is to consentrate on the good old Scotish traditions here. I like it!

Fred S.

The red garters ( or do you just call them ribbons...? ) are an interesting focal point here. Do they also vary from clan to clan ( as the kilts obviously do ), do they change according to

regards, fred the occassion ( red for funerals, black for weddings..), or can one choose whatever colour one wants ? I also notice they have identical socks and shoes.. All in all a photo filled with interesting details, and this ancient clan system, as well as the fact that these traditions are still kept so very much alive, is quite fascinating, I was in Edinburgh 4-5 years ago, and visited a shop ( In or near the castle, or somewhere on the Royal Mile...) where they sold all kinds of outfit and accessories for ''clansmen''. We also met ladies wearing tartans: Are they clan-related, or are they something any woman in Scotland may wear ?
Fred S.

PS: The ''regards, fred'' ended up somewhere it shouldn`t, but ''pytt, pytt'', as we say in norway....

Thanks for the new comments.

Tor-Erik: You are right; I was focusing on the presentation of the traditional Scottish clothes. But these brothers were very interesting old gentlemen with unique faces as well.

Fred: I am not a professor of the Scottish traditions, of course, so I cannot tell you the colours of the ribbons/garters for funerals, weddings, etc. ;) I think anybody can wear any kind of kilts, tartans, ribbons/garters, socks, shoes, ties, hats, etc. if he/she buys them.

I saw your footprint in the Castle and on the Royal Mile too in front of the ''Royal Mile Whiskies'' store in March last year ;)

Judit :)
Fred S.

My footprints ? Can they still be seen ? No wonder, I stood an hour windowshopping outside that store...
Well, to be serious, I remember the store, I think. If it was the one on the right hand side when walking in the direction of Holyrood Castle, stortly after leaving Ed. Castle, we even dropped in. Didn`t buy anything, though; I stuck with the ''common'' whisky my week in Scotland, Famous Grouse....

regards, fred
Judit W.

Yes, yes! I was speaking about that store you mentioned too :)

And do you remember Rose Street close to Walter Scott's Monument, parallel with Princes Street, what is famous about its pubs? There are 23 pubs (Edinburgh has more than 800) and the legend says that those men, who can drink half pint of beer in each one without being drunk, are the best. (In the world or in Edinburgh, I don't know.) The best pub in that street is ''Bad Ass'', in my opinion.

Scottish Tradition...
Scott on the Rocks... ;_)

I have been looking at this picture for some time. You see, I have relatives from Scottland. My greatgreatXXXXgrandfather from Scottland, Saunder Saunderson came to Norway in 1555(?). He came to Hallingdal and changed his name to Sander Sanderson.
That's why my midlename is Sander.
But where he is coming from is unknown.
He's house in now a museum. This house are near and below to Geilo.

regards Villy
Judit W.

Hei Villy,

Thanks a lot for sharing your family background :) It would be good to know the cause of your greatgreatXXXXgrandfather's moving to Norway.

If our family legend is correct, I have some French relatives from the 16th century ... But we all are mixed somehow if we think over the history; it's full of invasions – Romans, Celts, Vikings, Tartars, Turks and so on ...

Judit :)
