That day was the only one when I had a very heavy rain shower, but I ''sacrificed myself'' visiting the beautiful ruins of Charles Fort. And the guide there who spoke nearly an hour about its history in the pouring rain! He had a very heavy Irish accent (I almost didn't understand anything) – but he was so enthusiastic; a real Irish country man. It was so good to listen to him!

Ireland - The Green Island. It's no doubt, and this photo shows the wonderful green colors. Oh yes, I like them! :-)

Nice colours all over, and the grey tones on the ocean, with the waves break against the rocks gives an imagine about the rough coastal landscape.

Good composition and crop. (I would cloned away the straws ;-)

Hi Judit: I like to get up late on my days off; and with eyes barely open I read somewhere over here ''a nice picture of an old fart''.... Well, i have come to realize this is not an old fart, but an old fort, and a very photogenic one. Very good composistion, with the greyish sea and the fort dividing the frame betwen themselves in a ''diagonal'' way. Great hue on that green grass, and the little turret is really spectacular.

We are a group of friends who are going to Dublin in October for an extended weekend. Hope to have time to visit some place like this one . (But for all I know Kinsale may be on the other side of the island...)

Hei Fred! You aren't alone with liking to get up late :) But before I start to do any serious thing I usually wait half hour minimum ;) I am sure you know the meaning of the phrase ''old fart'' in slang ;)

Kinsale is at the Celtic Sea, in the south – south-west part of Ireland, near Cork. The distance between these towns is around 25 miles (~ 40 kilometres) on R600. The fort is in Summer Cove which is another extra 3 kilometres from Kinsale. Both places (Kinsale and Summer Cove) are very nice! So, maybe it would be better idea for you and your friends to go to Cork this October.

Personally I didn't like being in Cork city (2004); it was rather grey with only few architectural attractions. But! Cork is the ''Cultural Capital of Europe''/''European Capital of Culture'' in 2005, so maybe you can find some interesting new buildings, exciting programmes and some other fun there.

I think you have done a good job with the presentation here, because the composition really brings out the drama that you have in mind when you think about fort's and this was a really nice and spectacular one with it's Irish grenn gras almost going all the way to the heavy sea, so good job.

As I mentioned some days ago, here are some useful websites about the most famous star-shaped forts in Europe. Taking part on the 11th International Architectural Student Conference last April, I met Italian students from Udine who exhibited their studies on star-shaped forts of Hamina and Palmanova. Only these two forts are inhabited within their walls.

Hi Judith,

For sure, this picture has Ireland written all over it. When I travelled the Dublin surroundings several years ago, the literally vibrant green was what cought my eye first, everywhere I went. I haven't seen it this way anywhere else. They told me the reason was the large amounts of rain they receive each year, combined with the relatively high temperature.

Your picture is a fine documentary, showing this in a nice mannner. I would have cloned away the three straws(?) in the bottom of the picture. Also, I would have considered darkening the sea part of the picture somewhat, which seems slightly overexposed. However, all in all, it is a fine documentary and a nice picture. ;-)

This looks like a very wet and green place with a history of war and fortification, i.e. Ireland, meaning that you have conveyed the mood in a most convincing way.
The setting seem to have written ''intruders not welcome'' all over it.
On this screen the colors seem natural, but the three pieces of straw and also some small white spots in the grass are somewat distracting from an otherwise uncluttered picture.

Ireland.. Land of dreams ant myths.. The green hills, soft landscape and historical places..

The sea meet the cliffs in wonderful harmony but yet with a touche of drama.
Nice composition and natural colours. I like this alot!

I have to admit that Ireland is my favourite country in the whole wide world. I think you have caught Ireland quite precisely in this pic. Green green grass (of home:-)) and ruins . I've been throughout Ireland but Kinsale (what a shame:-)).To keep it short: This represents Ireland to me.
